The Expos were powered to victory by two homeruns.
April 7, 2004
Miami, FL.
Marlins pitcher
Brad Penny
had a good first outing on Wednesday night throwing 7 strong innings. It was not enough however to earn the victory as the Marlins fell 3-2 to the Expos on Wednesday night.
The Marlins actually out-hit the Expos 6 hits to 5 but two of those hits generated all three of the Expos runs as OF Carl Everett hit a 2 run homer in the 1st to take the early lead and SS Orlando Cabrera's solo shot in the 6th iced the victory for the Expos.
Penny finished the evening with 7 innings pitched giving up only 4 hits and 3 runs while walking only 1 and striking out 6. Relievers
Tommy Phelps
and
Nate Bump
each pitched scoreless innings.
The Marlins had plenty of opportunities to score runs but they stranded 15 runners on base.
Alex Gonzalez
and
Ramon Castro
left 4 and 3 respectively.
Hee Seop Choi
continued his hot hitting driving in 3B
Mike Lowell
with an RBI single. RF
Miguel Cabrera
supplied the second Marlins run with his first homerun of the season, a solo shot to left-field in the 8th inning.
The Marlins conclude the three game set with the Expos on Thursday. Game time is set for 7:05 pm. Tomo Ohka is set to go for Montreal with
Dontrelle Willis
to take the mound for the Marlins.
The first 10,000 through the gates will receive a Marlins World Series Championship Collector's Pin.
